My trip to the Academy of Sciences

We had a nice trip to the new California Academy of Sciences building in Golden Gate park.  I didn't love the $25/person fee (not quite like the National Museums in D.C.).  They've got a terrarium right in the middle and you wind your way up a ramp around the inside of a giant fishbowl.  Lots of bugs, snakes, lizards, butterflies, birds, the whole works.  It was nicely done.

You go up 3 levels and then down to the basement and enter the aquarium.  Hard to see in this shot, but there's a tunnel in the basement through the big pool in the middle of the fishbowl terrarium.

There were some photos taken in the Aquarium section, but I was a little shy with the flash, so you get nothing.  We skipped the Planetarium because we didn't like their ticketing system for it.  This is a nice shot of Deb on the roof.  The roof is one of their exhibits, the Living Roof.

This is a shot of the de Young Museum.  It's just across the quad from the Academy.  We didn't go there.  Turns out that we missed Chihuly's exhibit, bummer.

Deb was a big fan of the Living Roof and how they mimic the 7 hills of S.F.  Seems like there's a lot more than 7 hills in S.F. to me.  The Museum makes use of as much natural light as it can.  The windows are also used to cool the building (along with the vegetation).  There are a variety of little things the building does on the inside as well.  One favorite was labeling the trash cans as "Landfill".

A nice shot of my benefactors in the Bay area.  Seriously, they've got one of the most comfortable couches to sleep on.  We had fabulous weather all day, I know, in San Francisco, crazy!
