Best Damn Race Results

I ran the Best Damn Run 10K today.  I finished in 43:44, which if you're scoring at home is a 7:02/mile pace.  It's a little longer than my 5K pace, but at 6.2 miles, it gets hard to hold pace after awhile.  I had a rabbit (guy running just in front of me) for most of the race, but just couldn't catch him.  I had a nice burst for the last 2/10ths, but so did he.

 

Some of the runners looked super serious with their gear and their stretching.  There were only 350 people in the race, and it was sponsored by a running club.  I was feeling that I wasn't serious/good enough to push too close to the front for the start.  I'm not sure how many people finished in front of me, but I would put the number around 20.  I probably should have gotten a little closer to the front.

It was a very nice course, mostly downhill, except for a little surprise uphill at around mile 5.   Estacada is not as close to Portland as I had imagined it was, but it still wasn't very far to travel for a race (about 30 minutes).  The race had an unusual start where they bused everyone from the finish to the start (one-way run, no loop).  We hung out at the starting line waiting for ~30 minutes for everyone to check-in and take the short bus ride.  It was about 55 degrees in Estacada this morning, not bad for running, but a little cool for standing.  Then, without any real announcement, some guy kinda looks like he has an announcement to say or something and then everyone is running.  Fun fun.

Next up for me is the Run Like Hell half marathon.  I guess I just like doubling the distance each time: 3.1, 6.2, and now 13.1 miles.

9 month checkup for the twins

The twins had their 9 month checkup today.  It's actually closer to 10 months, though

Violet is 18#1 which puts her on the official charts now in the 20% for weight (she has been below the minimum every other visit).  She is also in the 75% for height and the 90% for noggin.

Luke is 21#2 which is the 40%, his height is in the 93%, and his head is in the 81%.

Things I don't want to forget that Olivia said...

Olivia doesn't eat Chicken Nuggets, she eats Chicken Naughuggets.

When trying to get her brother's attention, Olivia often calls him Lukie-Ba-Dookie.

Jen was counseling Olivia about a stain on her dress.  Olivia asked if the stain would come out in the dryer and Mom said No.  Then, Olivia asked if the stain would come out in the wetter (in case that isn't clear, that's the washing machine).

When Olivia doesn't like what's being served for dinner, she asks "What are we having that's better than this?".  This one is not very popular with Jen.

Shoes-on-a-wire was popular for awhile.  Especially when shouted from the backseat on the way to school as we passed the shoes on a wire.

I'm not sure if you can tell or not, but this photo used to have a long line of orange tape in it. It was sort of a barrier to keep people out of the Laurelhurst pond. The green color tint of the water is the actual color of the water. The barrier was there to keep everyone out of the toxic algae bloom. My next step for this photo is to see if I can recast the water color back to a less-toxic-looking-blueish. I'm pretty happy just getting rid of the orange tape for now, though.
